Tildy’s matriculation

I went to Santa Rosa for Tildy’s official turning in. As the kennel staff walked by us, many had nice words and pats to give her. She’s made friends with the people there.

On the day of turn in, CCI had a potluck lunch for the puppy raisers. Walking with a paper plate and a puppy is difficult. Tildy made it worse by licking the turkey platter in the buffet line. I figure we’re all dog lovers so I quickly moved on ignoring the infraction. I hope nobody saw…She was a rascal with me! Not wanting to “down” while I ate.

I received a letter from her about two weeks ago. She’s kennel mates with Bella, and her trainer is Jaime (I think). She says she’s having fun. I met Bella’s puppy raisers and we’re making bets on who gets caught smoking cigarettes first. Bella and she are well matched in the rascal category.

Early April should be the first news of how she’s doing academically.

Tildy’s turn in date is officially 2/12/10, but she’s not going to make it to that date. She’ll be dropped off two weeks early, tomorrow, as she’s in heat again.

I wasn’t too sad, but writing this makes it a little more real. Of course she’s barking at the back door right now…I know that pulling her crate apart, giving her toys and food away, and cleaning up the massive amounts of yellow hair will pull at the heart strings.

I will post when I hear any news on her progress. Then, I’ll hand the blog over to whomever gets her.

Tildy’s blog ignored

We’ve been bad bloggers. If all goes according to plan, however, you are eight months away from living with Tildy!

As expected, the closer the turn-in date comes, the sweeter the puppy becomes! Don’t get me wrong; Tildy is still a handful. And we’ve had bad storms recently so she’s out of her mind to go run around. Lately Tildy and I have been sleeping together in the king-sized bed. New baby has shuffled our sleeping arrangements temporarily. This morning I went to get back in bed at 5 a.m. after feeding the baby. Stumbling in the dark I jumped in my space in bed and landed smack on top of Tildy who had moved into my warm spot under the covers.

She seems to be a good mom. Loves licking the baby’s face and sniffing his diaper.

We went to Tildy’s Christmas party last night. She’s so petite that she wore last year’s Christmas sweater! Once again, the angel appeared. She’s so calm and mellow and sweet in front of everyone. We even got complimented on how nicely she takes treats from people’s hands. One thing we do in class is exchange dogs and work on commands. This gets the dog used to other handlers, etc. The night we did this, I got my hand bit off by greedy CCI puppies! Tildy is so gentle taking treats that I didn’t realize every puppy wasn’t like her.

We also heard some more feedback about her week with Tanner. Tanner is a big yellow guy, one of the cutest I’ve seen, and younger than Tildy. It took three days of staying with them before Tildy finally slowed down. All she wants to do is play with other dogs. Tanner will be turning in with her in February–I doubt they’ll be kennel mates!

Tildy is Terrible

I know cci dogs are supposed to be perfect. Tildy has been awful lately. Here she’s making an appearance at the Los Gatos Christmas parade. When she’s working, you’d never know how bad she is at home. She took a bite out of the center console in my car after she’d been playing with her friends.

Tildy has been terrible lately. She’s taking advantage of the lack of my attention to get into all kinds of trouble. Here’s just a few things she’s gotten to this week: homegrown sweet potatoes, home grown avocados, bottles, toilet paper, dental floss, rubber bands, yogurt containers, felt tip pen, bottle covers…

Tildy had a sleepover last night at her half sister, Branda’s, house. Branda, however, was at Santa Rosa with three of her boyfriends. Branda was recently chosen as a breeder and she went into her first heat this week. Tildy filled in for her at the Willow Glen library in the Reading to Dogs program. CCI dogs volunteer to listen to children read. The dogs don’t correct any mispronounced words or judge them. The dogs just sit and listen and smile.

Tildy was “pretty good” at her overnight. She did chew up some old slippers that were ready for retirement anyway. She helped herself to the bin of toys, too. She barked at bedtime but quieted right down when she understood they wouldn’t tolerate it.

She gets away with her naughtiness because she’s so cute. At the library, she was perfect. She takes her work seriously, if not her house rules.

Tildy wins first prize

Tildy’s squirrel costume landed her first prize this year at the Halloween party. She also went trick-or-treating with her cousin, Quinn. I’ve said this before, but Quinn is Tildy’s all-time favorite person. Actually, Tildy might think Quinn is a littermate. We do need to work on dominance issues between the two of them. I did catch Tildy “hugging” (0ur euphemism for humping) Quinn several times.

I have forgotten what I’ve written here and what I’ve put in her puppy reports, but Tildy is doing awesomely these days. She’s full of spunk. My husband calls it “jackassery.” She still loves stealing pacifiers, but now she’s upped the ante. She likes taking them from Mario, not just the ones she finds in car seats. I’ll try and get a photo, but I’m usually sternly telling her to “drop” it instead of running for the camera.

She’s done quite the pr job for the San Francisco 49ers Calendar sales. And while her buddies got photographed with cheerleaders and players, Tildy preferred the mascot, Sourdough Sam. See the video on the official 49er Web site here. Tildy is on the far right of the screen in the group shots. She has on a thin brown leather collar with flowers. Esther, another puppy raiser, took Tildy to the party while I was in the hospital having a baby.

Also, Tildy is still fearless. Halloween costumes didn’t phase her nor did the 49er marching band that well, marched right by her. She merely watched them with interest. She’s really become part of our family. As February gets closer I have pangs of missing her already.

Four weeks into this and life is good. Tildy can get close without anyone freaking out. She’s curious about the white stuff that frequently comes out of Mario’s mouth. She seems concerned if he’s unhappy about something (which is extremely rare). By the way, the Arizona Cardinal outfit was a hand-me-down. This is the first and last time he’ll wear it. He’s actually a Charger fan.
